The use of niobium RRR

The Residual Resistivity Ratio (RRR) of niobium is the ratio of the resistivity of the niobium material at room temperature to the resistivity at low temperatures (usually liquid helium temperature, about 4.2K). A niobium material with a high RRR value indicates that it has very low resistivity at low temperatures, which is close to ideal superconductor behavior. Because of its excellent electrical and mechanical properties, niobium RRR material is widely used in many high-tech fields, especially in low temperature physics and superconductivity technology. The following are the main uses of niobium RRR materials:

1. Superconducting accelerator
Particle accelerators used in high-energy physics research require powerful superconducting magnets to accelerate and direct particle beams. Niobium RRR material is widely used in the manufacture of superconducting magnets because of its low resistivity and excellent superconductivity at low temperature.
