What is Pure Tantalum?

Tantalum is mainly found in tantalite and is symbiotic with niobium. The hardness of pure tantalum is moderate. Pure tantalum is malleable. Pure tantalum can be produced into tantalum plates, tantalum rods, tantalum wires and tantalum foils.

The coefficient of thermal expansion of pure tantalum is very small. Tantalum is highly resistant to corrosion. Tantalum does not react with hydrochloric acid concentrated nitric acid and aqua regia under either hot or cold conditions.

A production process of 99.99 tantalum plate

  • Electron beam melting: Pure tantalum strips are weighed and placed in a melting furnace for the first electron beam melting. Smelt to get ingots.

  • Ball milling: The tantalum ingots are crushed by the crusher and then put into the ball mill for ball milling.

    After the ball mill, check the screen and continue the ball milling with coarse tantalum powder on the screen.

    Until all the tantalum powder can pass through the mesh sieve, tantalum powder is obtained.

  • Hydraulic classification: The tantalum powder is placed in the hydraulic classifier for hydraulic classification.

    The angular tantalum powder is divided into three particle size grades according to the Fisher particle size control.

  • Drying: The angular tantalum powder with three particle size grades is vacuum dried at 75℃.

  • Tantalum powder spherodization: The tantalum powder of three particle size grades is heated by high-frequency hot plasma respectively, so that the angular tantalum powder particles are melted, and the spherical tantalum powder of three particle size grades is obtained.

  • Mold loading: The spherical tantalum powder with three particle size grades is evenly mixed in proportion and then loaded into the mold, and vibrated and pressed tightly.

  • Heating and pressurizing: the mold containing tantalum powder is placed in the hot press furnace, and the hot press furnace is evacuated first. After two times of replacement with argon gas, argon gas is filled again, and then heating up, at the same time pressure, heat preservation and pressure preservation.

  • Embryo formation: After the temperature in the hot press furnace is lowered to room temperature, the pressure is removed, and the vacuum is broken to remove the high purity tantalum embryo block.

  • Rolling into plate: the high purity 99.99 tantalum embryo block is rolled into high purity tantalum plate by asynchronous rolling method.

Application of Tantalum

Tantalum has the characteristics, so that its application field is very broad. Tantalum can be used as a substitute for stainless steel in the production of various inorganic acids.

The service life of tantalum equipment is dozens of times higher than that of stainless steel. In the chemical, electronic and electrical industries, tantalum can replace the precious metal platinum, so that the cost is greatly reduced.

Tantalum is manufactured into capacitors and used in military equipment. Half of the world's tantalum production is used in the production of tantalum capacitors.
