Niobium & Niobium Alloys

The chemical symbol for niobium is Nb. Its atomic number is 41. It's a steel-gray metal. Niobium powder is dark gray. The melting point of niobium is 2468℃. It has a boiling point of 4742℃. The density of niobium is 8.57 g/cm3.

Niobium alloy is an alloy composed of niobium and other elements. NbTi alloys, Nb-C103 alloys, Nb1Zr alloys, Nb10Zr alloys, Nb521 alloys, CB752 alloys, FS-85 alloys, NbTaHf alloys, Nb-C129Y alloys are our common products.

Niobium alloys are very attractive high temperature materials. It has good high temperature strength and good low temperature plasticity. Niobium alloy is considered to be one of the most promising high temperature materials. Sputtering targets of niobium and its alloys can be used to increase the refractive index of glass. Niobium is used to make commemorative coins, jewelry and special stainless steel alloys. Niobium alloys are used in the manufacture of rockets, jet engines, oil RIGS and gas turbines. Niobium and its alloys are used in building grinders and beams. Niobium is also used to make superconducting magnets for surface acoustic wave devices, MRI scanners, nuclear magnetic resonance and particle accelerators. In the medical industry, niobium is used in the manufacture of implant devices and prosthetics.

The application of niobium and its alloys

Steel industry: About 85% to 90% of the world's niobium in the form of iron niobium is used in steel production. Adding niobium to steel can not only improve the strength of steel, but also improve the toughness, high temperature oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of steel.

Superconducting materials industry: Because certain compounds and alloys of niobium have high superconducting transition temperatures, they are widely used in the manufacture of various industrial superconductors. Niobium and its alloys are used to manufacture superconducting generators, accelerator high-power magnets, superconducting magnetic accumulators and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging devices.

Aerospace industry: The aerospace industry is the main application area of high purity niobium. Niobium and niobium alloys are mainly used in the production of rockets, spacecraft engines and heat-resistant components. The thermal strength alloys of niobium and tantalum have good thermal strength properties, thermal resistance and processing properties. They are widely used to make parts for aeroengines and blades for gas turbines.

Atomic energy industry: niobium has a high melting point, strong ability to emit electrons, and has the ability to inhale, and can be used to make electronic tubes and other electric vacuum devices.

Medical field: Because niobium has good physiological corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, it is often used in the manufacture of bone plates, skull plate bone screws, dental implants and surgical instruments.
