In order to produce high purity niobium, It is generally to try to turn Nb2O5 to rough niobium first, and then further purify the niobium by electron beam melting. Generally speaking, the volatile elements (Al, Fe, alkali metals, etc.) in niobium are easy to be removed in the process of electron beam melting, but the non-volatile elements (such as Tantalum, Tungsten) and gap elements (Carbon, Nitrogen, Hydrogen, Oxygen) are not easy to be removed.
Therefore, a lot of research work has been carried out around the removal of Ta, W, Mo and C, N, H, O. There’re a lot of effective methods have been successfully developed.
The increase of rolling passes leads to the decrease of grain size and the increase of grain boundary area, which may affect the superconductivity and RRR value of niobium material.

The key parameter of superconducting niobium bar for superconducting accelerators is the RRR value (the residual resistivity of the material at 4.2K). It is generally required to be greater than 250.
The higher the RRR value, the better the superconducting performance of the bar. The main factor affecting the superconducting properties of superconducting RRR niobium rods in processing is the temperature rise from ingot to finished product.
The faster the temperature rise is, the more serious the attenuation of RRR value is. Therefore, processing method is crucial for the production of superconducting RRR niobium rods for superconducting accelerators.
Superconducting RRR niobium tube has a high requirement for residual resistivity (RRR). Meanwhile, because superconducting RRR niobium tube is mostly used for connecting tube of accelerators and other devices, specifications of RRR niobium tube are different and length of RRR niobium tube is short.
In order to ensure the residual resistivity of superconducting niobium tube, we should reduce the pollution of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen as much as possible during processing.
