Nitinol Rod is a common form of nickel-titanium shape memory alloy (Ni-Ti). The chemical composition of Nitinol Bar is similar to that of Nitinol Sheet. However, the physical properties of the Nitinol Rod (such as mechanical behavior, processing characteristics, etc.) differ from those of the Nitinol Sheet due to the geometric characteristics of the rod shape. The cold working of Ni55%/Ti45% rods is relatively difficult, while that of Ni55%/Ti45% plates is relatively easy.
The bending fatigue life of Nitinol superelastic rod rods is better than that of Nitinol superelastic plates. Nickel-titanium rod recovery strain: 4% to 6% (unidirectional memory), and can reach 8% after training.
When smelting Nitinol rods ASTM F2063, vacuum induction smelting or arc smelting should be used to ensure uniform composition.

Nitinol (Nickel-Titanium Alloy) in rod/bar form, leveraging its shape memory effect (SME) and superelasticity (SE), has a wide range of applications across various industries.
In the medical and biomedical field, Nitinol rod is used as orthopedic internal fixation devices, such as spinal correction rods for scoliosis, which recover their shape at body temperature to apply continuous corrective force and stabilize bones. Nitinol bar also serves as dental implant abutments, using superelasticity to absorb occlusal impacts and reduce the risk of bone resorption around implants.
Additionally, Nitinol Shape Memory Alloy Muscle Rod is employed in minimally invasive surgical guidewires and puncture needles, where its flexibility allows navigation through blood vessels and its superelasticity ensures the instruments return to a straight shape after penetrating tissue.
In aerospace and defense, Super elastic nitinol bar ASTM F2063 is used as deformable wing support rods embedded in the wing structure, allowing real-time adjustment of the aircraft's aerodynamic shape through temperature-controlled extension or bending. It also functions as drive shafts for satellite deployment mechanisms, rotating or extending upon heating to deploy solar panels or antennas. Furthermore, Ni55%/Ti45% bar is used as impact-resistant buffer rods in aircraft landing gear or armored vehicle suspension systems, absorbing shock energy through superelasticity and quickly returning to its original shape.
In industrial and energy applications, Nitinol rods serve as self-regulating valve actuators, directly controlling valve opening and closing in critical systems such as emergency valves in nuclear power plant cooling systems. They also act as pipeline connection compensators in high-temperature oil and gas pipelines, compensating for displacement differences caused by thermal expansion and contraction. Additionally, they are used as mechanical vibration dampers in heavy machinery like compressors and turbines, dissipating high-frequency vibration energy through superelasticity.
Rod-shaped Nitinol is also utilized in mechanical and automation applications, such as artificial tendons in bionic robots, enabling bending and stretching movements through electrothermal actuation. It serves as precision positioning pushrods in optical instruments or semiconductor equipment, providing micron-level adjustments for lens or chip positioning. Additionally, it is used in smart fixtures and grippers, which contract upon heating to grip objects and release them upon cooling, suitable for operations in hazardous environments.
In construction and civil engineering, Nitinol rods are embedded in concrete beams and columns as self-resetting structural reinforcement, recovering from deformation after earthquakes to reduce building damage. They also function as prestress regulators in bridge cables, actively adjusting tension in response to temperature changes to counteract load-induced deformations. Furthermore, they are used as internal support rods for pipeline repair liners, expanding upon heating to seal cracks and enhance structural strength in aging pipelines.
In emerging fields and research, Nitinol rods are used to design metamaterial unit structures with periodic arrays of rods, achieving negative thermal expansion or programmable stiffness. They also serve as support rods for cryogenic superconducting magnets, maintaining shape stability at liquid helium temperatures for applications in fusion devices or particle accelerators. Additionally, they are used as active deformation elements in 4D printing, enabling dynamic reconstruction of complex shapes, such as folding deployable structures for spacecraft.
In addition to Nitinol Rod & Bar, we also produce Nitinol Tube & Pipe, Nitinol Sheet & Plate, Nitinol Ingot, Nitinol Pellets, Nitinol Foil & Strip, Nitinol Wire, Nitinol Disc, Nitinol Shield, Nitinol Target, Nitinol machined parts, Nitinol Additive.
